Open year-round. EXIT GLACIER, KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK Exit Glacier is the only part of Kenai Fjords National Park accessible by
road. Here you can stroll the trails, walk very close to an active glacier,
or take a ranger-led walk. It is a place where you can witness up
close how glaciers re-shape a landscape and learn how plant life reclaims
the barren rocky land exposed by a glacier’s retreat. Exit Glacier is open year-round, but the road is closed to vehicle traffic upon the arrival of snow (usually Oct through mid-May). The glacier is several miles from the closure gate and can not be seen from the turn-around point. Winter access includes snow machines, dogsleds, hikers, and cross-country skiers. For more information, reference the Kenai Fjords National Park website. SEWARD MUSEUM Noted as one of the best attractions in Seward, this unexpected gem is a hit with visitors. The museum presents the chief points of Seward's history through photographs, artifacts and documents. There is also a fine collection of Native baskets and ivory carvings on display. During the summer, the museum offers evening film programs: The History of Seward and The History of the Iditarod Trail. The movies are complemented by a showing of "the Earthquake movie" at the library on summer afternoons. The museum shop carries books by local authors and other items relating to local area. Open daily in the summer; winter hours upon request for special groups.
