Established in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, KFNP covers an area of 1,047 square miles on the Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska, near and around Seward. Named for the numerous fjords carved by glaciers moving down the mountains from the Harding Ice Field, the park contains at least 38 glaciers accessible by boat, airplane and hiking, and a multitude of wildlife species.
