The 2024 Seward Chamber of Commerce Micro-Membership Scholarship has been awarded to James Unrein!

To apply for the scholarship, graduating high school students were required to highlight their career goals and objectives in 5 paragraphs. James wrote about his goal to become a journeyman electrician and to continue his education at AVTEC.

"...my plan to achieve my career
objective is to continue my education next year by attending the Industrial Electricity
program at AVTEC. After that, I will apply to the IBEW apprenticeship program. This
education and training will provide me with the knowledge and abilities needed to start
my career and achieve my goal of becoming an electrician."

Part of the essay process was to answer their career objectives, their plans to accomplish their goals, identify obstacles they may face and how to they will overcome those challenges. James highlighted how he will work over the summer and during school to cover the financial aspects of his education.

He wrote that he understands the importance of electricians in Alaska's workforce.

"I will also feel pride knowing that the work I
do will help to further the economic stability of the great State of Alaska, which I am
fortunate to call home."

This year the Seward Chamber of Commerce received 3x the amount of applicants than last year. Thank you to all the students who applied and shared their objectives with us and congratulations to all of our graduates!

Congratulations, James!
