Alaska Railroad

The Alaska Railroad offers daily passenger service via the Coastal Classic Train from May through September. The train arrives once daily in the mid-morning and departs for Anchorage early evening, and is full of beautiful views and breathtaking vistas.

Ranked among the top ten train rides in North America by National Geographic, the Coastal Classic Train winds along Turnagain Arm where the steep mountains of the Chugach Range plunge directly to the sea. After a quick stop in Girdwood, the train departs from the road system into the backcountry for what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the entire Railbelt. An 11:00 am arrival into Seward gives day-trippers a full day for adventure before making the return journey to Girdwood and Anchorage at 6:00 pm that evening.

Consider upgrading to the GoldStar service, offering passengers one-of-a-kind glass-dome ceilings, an outdoor upper-level viewing platform, and a full-service dining room; GoldStar tickets include meals, soft drinks, and two complimentary adult beverages (for passengers over 21).

Some tours and lodging providers partner with the Alaska Railroad on package tours and seasonal deals - be sure to ask about any special offers. Many local activities and excursions are available as a day trip option from Anchorage!
