Kenai Fjords Tours (KFT) has been part of the Seward community for over 40 years, showing up as more than just a wildlife and glacier cruise company — they’re neighbors, employers, and true local supporters. This year, KFT’s commitment to Seward’s legendary Mount Marathon Race is front and center.

Now owned by Pursuit, a public company with a renewed focus on community support, KFT has taken its role as a Mount Marathon Race sponsor seriously. Their contributions this year include $5,000 for new fencing at the race finish line, funding for the midnight fireworks show, and backing for kids’ activities through Seward Parks & Recreation for the Fourth of July. KFT also shows gratitude to the many race volunteers by donating an end-of-season boat tour — a tradition that’s become a highlight for those who make the race possible.

Geri Nipp, KFT’s general manager, says that supporting Seward is at the heart of Pursuit’s approach: “Safety is at the heart of every experience we create at Pursuit. Supporting the finish line fencing was one small way we could help ensure a safe and memorable 4th of July for the community — it’s part of our ongoing promise to care for the places and people we serve.”

KFT’s impact stretches beyond race day. Each season, they employ over 100 people, including a crew of expert captains who don’t just navigate the waters — they narrate the landscape, sharing their passion for Alaska with every guest. This year, the company is making significant investments in the community and its operations, adding new employee housing and renovating its fleet.

And their local giving doesn’t stop with the Mount Marathon Race. KFT collects one dollar from every passenger and donates it to the Alaska SeaLife Center, raising $58,000 last year alone for vital research projects. Their annual free boat tour kicks off the season, with all donations going to a local nonprofit — this past year, the Seward HS Boosters Club. They’re also regular supporters of the Tsunami Swim Camps, Lost Lake Run, and He Will Provide Food Pantry, often donating gift certificates to help fundraisers go further.

Environmental stewardship is another cornerstone for KFT, as they work to protect the pristine landscapes that bring visitors to Seward in the first place. From sustainable practices to educating guests about conservation, they’re serious about keeping Alaska wild for the next generation.

“We’re proud to be part of this community and want to see Seward thrive year-round. We want to be good partners and we want to be stewards of this place.”

— Geri Nipp, KFT General Manager
