Adventure Awaits with ATV Seward: Meet Shawn "Porkchop" and Cynthia George, Local Business Owners Bringing Excitement to Seward

Seward, Alaska, has always been a hub for adventure, but it just got even better! This summer, residents and visitors alike can look forward to an exhilarating new way to explore the area, thanks to ATV Seward, the town’s only ATV touring company. Owned and operated by Seward locals Shawn "Porkchop" George and his wife, Cynthia, ATV Seward offers guided tours along the historic Iditarod Trail, immersing riders in Alaska’s stunning landscapes and rich history.

Shawn, affectionately known as "Porkchop," and Cynthia are no strangers to the world of ATV tours—or to running successful businesses. For six years, they owned and operated Gecko’s Island Adventures in the sunny U.S. Virgin Islands, where they introduced visitors to the natural beauty of the Caribbean. But one trip to Seward changed everything.

“We fell in love with the area instantly,” Cynthia shared. “It didn’t take long for us to trade in our flip-flops for rain boots.”

ATV SewardThe Georges officially became part of the Seward community last year when they purchased the former Camelot Cottages, now reimagined as Bear Necessities Cottages. Over the winter of 2023–2024, they completely remodeled the seven-unit property, turning it into a beautiful retreat for visitors.

The Georges also bring a personal touch to their businesses as a blended family with four daughters. During the summer months, the girls can be found helping out with the family’s ventures, from greeting guests to assisting with tours.

“It’s a family effort,” Shawn said. “We love being able to work together and show our daughters the value of creating something meaningful for the community.”

Now, with ATV Seward, the Georges are adding even more adventure to their new hometown. Operating from Memorial Day through Labor Day, ATV Seward runs three tours daily, five days a week (Tuesday–Saturday). The tours, lasting 2–3 hours, take riders on a thrilling journey along the original Iditarod Trail—a world-famous route steeped in Alaskan history.

Not only is ATV Seward dedicated to providing a one-of-a-kind experience, but they are also committed to giving back. A donation is made to the Seward Iditarod Trailblazers for every tour booked, ensuring the ongoing maintenance and care of the historic trails they traverse.

“These trails are a critical part of Alaska’s history,” said Cynthia. “We want to ensure they’re preserved for generations to come.”

ATV SewardATV Seward caters to small groups, with a maximum of four machines per tour and two guides, ensuring every guest gets a personalized experience. Whether you’re an adventure-seeker, a family looking for a fun outing, or a cruise ship passenger with limited time in Seward, ATV Seward offers the perfect way to connect with Alaska’s rugged beauty and legendary past.

The Georges are also committed to giving back to the Seward community by partnering with local businesses and the Seward Chamber of Commerce. They’re excited to welcome both locals and visitors to join them on this exciting new venture.
